Tonight the results of the local government elections and three parliamentary by-elections at Cynon
Valley, Stafford and Surrey South West, will be known.
It will be the first test of national opinion since the General Election last year and since Neil Kinnock became leader of the Labour Party. John Tusa introduces the programme with computer analysis from Peter Snow and psephological interpretation from Professor Ivor Crewe. Sir Robin Day will be talking to leading politicians for their interpretation, and BBC reporters from all around the country will be bringing the latest results.
