The Magnum Story

on BBC Two England

1: Decisive Moments
From war and revolution to Marilyn Monroe and James Dean , Magnum photographers have produced some of the century's most memorable images. A co-operative of the world's leading photojournalists, Magnum was founded in 1947 by the legendary war photographer Robert Capa , with David 'Chim' Seymour,
George Rodger and the acknowledged master, Henri Cartier-Bresson . Both Capa and Seymour were killed in the 1950s, but Rodger and Cartier-Bresson have granted rare interviews for this series of three programmes. The first tells the story of the founders' careers in the 30s and 40s, the birth of the collective and its early, eventful years.
