This exceedingly interesting work was originally commissioned by the Symphony Society of New York in 1925, and was first performed in the Carnegie Hall under Walter Damrosch , with Gershwin as the soloist. It has been scored by Ferde Grofe for Paul Whiteman and his Concert Orchestra, and publicly performed by them.
