A short season of films starring Jack Lemmon opens with a comedy classic, based on the celebrated stage play by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur.
It has been filmed twice before, once starring Pat O'Brien , and then as His Girl Friday, starring Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant , in which
Hildy Johnson became a woman. This was remade into the recent film
Switching Channels, starring Kathleen Turner and Burt
Reynolds. Tonight's film was written by Billy Wilder and I A L Diamond, who also wrote Some Like It Hot.
Chicago, 1929: When Hildy Johnson quits as the Examiner's star reporter for marriage and a safe position in an advertising agency, he finds making the break from his scheming editor even more difficult than he had imagined.
