The Great War: 6: So Sleep Easy in Your Beds

on BBC Two England

The acclaimed 26-part story chronicling the 1914-18 conflict continues with episode six.

Attention turns to the battle of the sea. British confidence in the Royal Navy was to be shattered as it suffered defeats - the worst one at Coronel off the coast of South America on 1 November 1914. An astonished world wondered at these spectacular disasters, failing to see beyond them to a time when German shipping would all but disappear from the seas. Episode seven follows on BBC4 at 8.15pm.
