The Foreign Legion was founded 150 years ago by King Louis Philippe of France; today it contains 8,000 men from 99 countries. Around its name has grown an aura of romance and mystique, fostered by P. C. Wren 's classic novel Beau Geste , and countless feature films. For the first time the Foreign Legion has opened its doors to television. This unique report explores the myth and reality of the Foreign Legion today.
