5: Mrs Isabel North, Gold and Silver Embroideress and Mrs Florence Doyle, Military Accoutrement Maker
In an embroidery workshop near Coventry, Isabel North supervises work in gold and silver wire creating emblems and banners: while in London, Florence Doyle hand-sews military and ceremonial accoutrements, making aiguillettes, sword knots and robe ornaments. Both work for a company which has held the Royal Warrant for five reigns 'for the supply of gold and silver laces, insignia and embroidery'. They describe and reveal their skilful crafts.
