The 17th Acropolis Rally which ended in Athens last Sunday is the fastest event of its kind. It runs for 2,000 miles through the mountains of Greece - and flat-out speed tests against the clock account for no less than 400 miles of the route, which goes to places from the past like Sparta, Delphi, and Thermopylae.
The rally this year was a straight fight between Andersson, Clark, and Mikkola in three twin-cam Ford Escorts from Britain, and two Porsche 911s from Germany with Larousse and Waaldegard at the wheel. This is the story of who won and why.
