The Space Between Words: 2: Work

on BBC Two England

First shown early in 1972, this series shows four situations in which people try to communicate.

A modern electronics factory in Dorset. A nice place to work, with intelligent, sympathetic people in management and the unions. But in two days the system virtually breaks down, with the factory on the brink of a strike when a seemingly well-meant management productivity scheme is seen as a threat to men's jobs. An accidental leak and the sudden arrival of management consultants, forces management and unions to take up their positions. The programme follows both sides, their strategy, thinking, and goals.
