Travellers' Tales: The Opium People

on BBC Television

Introduced by David Attenborough.

In the remote hills of north-east Thailand live the Miao, a strange tribe who grow the opium poppy and sell the drug to smugglers who take it down to the coast. William Geddes, one of the few Europeans to visit them, made this film record of their life and their illicit trade.
