Showtime at the Apollo

on BBC Two England

Eartha Kitt introduces vintage performances, all filmed before the notoriously tough audience of Harlem's famous Apollo Theater. Tonight's show includes classic do-wop from the Delta Rhythm Boys with their version of Duke Ellington's theme tune, Take the 'A' Train; R'n'B crooning from Larry Darnell; piano boogiewoogie from Amos Milburn; side-splitting comedy from the famous double-act Nipsey Russell and Mantan Moreland; and blues with a hint of jazz from Lionel Hampton.
