Fame, Set and Match

on BBC Two England

Beyond the Fringe. In 1960, the director of the Edinburgh Festival, Robert Ponsonby , took steps to avoid the Fringe stealing the limelight; picking four individuals to star in a show, Beyond the Fringe. The four performers,
Alan Bennett , Jonathan Miller , Peter Cook and Dudley Moore , went on to change the face of British satire in the 1960s. The seventh of the irreverent series follows the quartet's fortunes since their heyday. Contains strong language.
