The Trial: A Stab in the Dark

on BBC Two England

Documentary series, now repeated in updated form, that made legal and television history just over a year ago with its detailed portrayal of proceedings in the Scottish High Court.

James Robertson, a usually quiet family man, snapped after a two-year feud with his neighbours and stabbed one of his tormentors through the heart with a knife. He protests his innocence against a charge of attempted murder, but the evidence against him is strong. A conviction could bring with it a ten-year jail sentence.
