Last of a six-part series that takes an inside look at the selection process for different jobs.

The Thames Valley police allowed cameras behind the scenes for the first time during the hunt to fill the £50,000-a-year job of Assistant Chief Constable. The candidates attended a tense dinner at Police Headquarters and then had only 45 minutes the next day to convince a panel of seven that they could cope with being responsible for a force of 5,000 officers.
