The Thames Valley police allowed cameras behind the scenes for the first time during the hunt to fill the £50,000-a-year job of Assistant Chief Constable. The candidates attended a tense dinner at Police Headquarters and then had only 45 minutes the next day to convince a panel of seven that they could cope with being responsible for a force of 5,000 officers.
