Transit of Venus: Stardate

on BBC Two England

Adam Hart-Davis is at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich to report on the incredibly rare astronomic event that took place earlier today. The last time Venus passed over the face of the Sun was in 1882, each occasion sparking scientific excitement as it enabled astronomers to measure the distance between Earth and the Sun. In 2004 cutting-edge solar telescopes and pictures from space could give the best ever view. Including the results of the Open University's attempt to get viewers to calculate the distance to the Sun. Director Patrick Titley : Executive producer Paul Bader
