Dear John: a Tribute to John Wells

on BBC Two England

The late John Wells, who died in January, combined careers as dramatist, director and satirist.
This profile of the man who immortalised Denis Thatcher in Private Eye's "Dear Bill" letters features a portrait of Wells as a family man from wife Teresa and daughter Dolly. Those paying tribute to his multi-talented public aspect are Private Eye editors past and present Richard Ingrams and Ian Hislop, model Jerry Hall, actress Diana Rigg, playwrights and novelists Tom Stoppard and John Mortimer, impressionist Rory Bremner and satirists John Fortune and John Bird.
