The World of Jacques Cousteau

on BBC One London

Calypso's Search for Atlantis (part 2)
Captain Cousteau continues his search for the long-lost civilisation of Atlantis.
Calypso is anchored close to the island of Psira, off the exposed northern coast of Crete. Here Cousteau and his companions discover an amazing underwater wall of hundreds of thousands of vases, pitchers and cups, cemented together by the chemical action of the sea. It was as if a whole fleet of laden trading ships sank as one -perhaps victims of the massive tidal wave that in mythology also claimed the elusive Atlantis. Written and narrated by THEODORE STRAUSS
