James is Our Brother

on BBC Two England

James was 16 before he dared try to catch a bus on his own. He is mentally handicapped with Down's Syndrome. At the start of this film, previously shown in the Schools television series Scene, we see him attempt that first bus journey. He talks about his feelings and other people's reactions to him, about the things that make him happy or sad, and about his life with family and friends. In the second part of the film James, now 22, brings us up to date with his story.
