Testing the Testers
Drug testingin sport has been much in the news recently, with British sprinter Solomon Wariso and Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona falling foul of the rules. But this documentary accuses the drug testing system of being scientifically inaccurate. inefficient and open to abuse.
Sportsmen and women talk about how they can be banned for merely drinkingcoffee while those who have failed a drugs test describe what being branded a drug cheat has done to their lives. There is also some disturbing evidence from scientists and medical experts as well as a report on the inconsistencies in penalties.
The programme, last in the current series, concludes that bogus science, petty jealousies. commercial interests and rampant egos threaten to undermine the very principles that the drug testing industry claims to be safeguarding. Executive producer Tony Moss
