BBC Legends: Adrian Boult

Stephen Johnson presents the first of two programmes drawing on BBC archive recordings made by the conductor Adrian Boult. A pioneering figure in the history of music-making in the BBC, he was the first principal conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. With part of the first London performance of Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra as well as English music by two Boult favourites, George Butterworth and Vaughan Williams.
