Goodbye London Aerodrome

on BBC Two England

From 1911 onwards it was the cradle of British aviation. Air aces of both wars learned to fly there - many pioneer aircraft were built there. The royal family kept aeroplanes there and attended its fabulous air displays.
Originally called the 'London Aerodrome', this extraordinary airfield has been an RAF station since
1918.
On 1 April, in the presence of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, the RAF, with a final fly-past, said goodbye to Hendon, leaving only the famous museum. With the aid of many who flew there,
Glyn Worsnip looks back at RAF Hendon's remarkable and romantic history. Executive producer DAVID HANINGTON
