The World About Us

on BBC Two England

On the Warpath in Arizona Written and narrated by Simon Winchester
One of the strangest disputes in the history of the American West has been going on for over 100 years.
The Navajo and the Hopi tribes are fighting over their right to live on the same piece of land. The Indians blame the US Government for the confusion and the conflict. The dispute is over ancient ancestral rights and more recent treaty agreements. Today 6,500 Navajos are resisting being moved from their tribal lands, so that the Hopis can take them over - by order of the US Government.
