2nd House 2nd Run

on BBC Two England

Introduced by Melvyn Bragg Knots
To stop you giving me a pain in the neck I protect my neck by tightening my neck muscles, which gives me the 'pain in the neck you are.
A typical example of what psychiatrist R. D. Laing calls a ' knot.' His book was used as the basis for a stage play performed by the Actors Company.
DR LAING - his other books include The Divided Self and The Politics of the Family - wrote Knots in 1970. Since it is a very simple text, many people were puzzled as to what they should make of this one.
Laing says: 'I have always tried to write literature, regardless of what people thought I was doing, several people have said that they found it a relief to see something they recognised in their lives. It turns some of the agony into' humour.'
The original stage adaptation was written by EDWARD PETHERBRIDGE. The film we are showing tonight was made by the ACTORS COMPANY and directed by DAVID I. MUNRO. Cast:
CAROLINE BLACKISTON
PAOLA DIONISOTTI , SHARON DRUCE ROBERT EDDISON , ROBIN ELLIS

EDWARD PETHERBRIDGE , SHEILA REID
