Johan and Marianne's, marriage, which once seemed so secure and happy, is now racked by uncertainty and tension. Marianne was stricken with remorse after her abortion and a visit from a client seeking a divorce after 20 years of marriage fills her with a sudden and inexplicable uneasiness.
