Tosca

on BBC Two England

A unique performance of Puccini's opera, live from Rome and starring Placido Domingo, given in the exact locations and at the times of day specified in the libretto.

This "live film", was conceived and produced by Andrea Andermann, who has masterminded major musical events around the world and was assistant director on Zeffirelli's Tosca. It is directed for television by Brian Large, who worked on the famous "three tenors" concert from Rome in 1990. Cinematography is by Bertolucci's and Coppola's cameraman Vittorio Storaro.

The first act takes place in the church of Sant' Andrea della Valle in Rome. Act 2 can be seen at 8.40pm, Act 3 at 6.00am tomorrow, and the complete opera will be repeated on Channel 4 tomorrow night.
