on BBC Two England

Germany: the Miracle Fades Germany since the war has been envied by her European neighbours. Stable, prosperous and successfully combating inflation and unemployment, the German economic and political miracle seemed set to continue. But over the past two years daunting problems have emerged.
Unemployment has risen to a record two million, and a steady rise in living standards is no longer taken for granted. At the same time, doubts have been growing about Germany's role in NATO, and the fast-growing peace movement is challenging the very basis of foreign and defence policy.
As Chancellor Schmidt faces this formidable array of problems and challenges, David Jessel reports on the new uncertainties in Germany.
