Written and directed by ARIANE MNOUCHKINE
A major five-part film series telling the story of one of history's great playwrights whose writings of 17th-century Paris life are memorable for their humour and perception.
1: The masqueraders, mountebanks and tumblers in the muddy streets of Paris were as much responsible for the development of the boy, Jean-Baptiste, into the genius, Moliere, as were his loving parents and the eccentric old priest who gave him the beginnings of his education. But later, as a law-student at Orleans, he was faced with the opposite of all this warmth, colour and loving kindness when he encountered the religious bigotry of 17th-century France.
