A series featuring natural history films from other countries. Whitecoat
As February ends off
Canada's north Atlantic coast, it's the birth season for harp seals. The pups, known as whitecoats, enter a world of ice and snow - from the warmth of their mother's womb to sub-zero temperatures - a difference of almost 50° Celsius. This film by Norman Lightfoot looks at the survival strategy of the baby seals in coping with the harsh environment. They really need their white coats.
