Narrated by Marius Goring
Leningrad's Hermitage Museum is famous as a storehouse of the art treasures collected by Russia s royal family. But there are also more than 200 French paintings that were originally bought by two wealthy merchants, Schukin and Morosov whose tastes for im pressionists led them to Matisse and Picasso, ' the north and south poles of modern painting', colour and form.
