Third in a nine-part series taking a look inside US courtrooms for some of the most remarkable trials of recent years.
Tonight, a 12-year-old boy from an affluent Florida neighbourhood caught in the crossfire between his adoptive and natural families. Gregory Kingsley wanted to stay with his foster family, but his biological mother, Rachel Kingsley, was determined to reclaim custody of her son. For the first time in American legal history, a child was given the right to choose his own lawyer and file his own lawsuit, with the intention of fighting to have his mother's legal rights withdrawn.
