An International chess tournament between eight of the world's leading Grand Masters. The players have been divided into two groups, with one point awarded for a win and half a point for a draw. The winners of each group meet in a sudden death final for the Master Game trophy and a first prize of £2,500. Game 1: Dr John Nunn (GB) v Vlastimil Hort (cz)
In the first game in Group A, Britain's youngest Grand Master, a mathematics teacher at Oxford, needs all his flair and combinative ability against the top-seed in his group, a player of the highest class and winner of many tournaments on the chess circuit.
