An appeal on behalf of THE BLAINA AND DISTRICT HOSPITAL AND CONVALESCENT HOME by IRENE VANBRUGH

THE BLAINA AND DISTRICT HOSPITAL serves a large depressed industrial area in the North-west Division of Monmouthshire. It has hitherto derived its income almost entirely from workers in the coal mines, who voluntarily paid a proportion of their weekly wages at the pit-head. The income from this source has now shrunk to a comparatively small sum, as during most of last winter 94 per cent. of the insurable population were unemployed. They can make no more than a small weekly contribution out of their meagre means.

The Maternity Wing was opened two years ago by the Duke and Duchess of York. Owing to the malnutrition of the adult population, this extension is more necessary than ever before. The sum of £2,500 is urgently needed to meet current expenses and outstanding debts.

Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed].

London National will radiate the London Regional Week's Good Cause, North National will radiate the North Regional Week's Good Cause, and Scottish National will radiate the Scottish Regional Week's Good Cause. West National will close down from 20-45 (8-4
