Life: Low-Temperature Living

on BBC Two England

Life ...in the animal world.

Few animals appear to thrive in a cold environment. Man begins to feel uncomfortable when the temperature of his surroundings drops 10°C. below that of his body. Yet some animals survive five times as great a temperature difference. How is this achieved, and can an understanding of it point the way to deep-freeze living for man in space?
