Aldeburgh Festival 1999
In this concert given on Sunday in the Snape Maltings concert hall, the BBC Symphony Orchestra is conducted by the new director of the Aldeburgh Festival, Thomas Ades , who is also represented in his more familiar role as composer. One of the tributes in Per Norgard's piece for string orchestra is to Sibelius, whose complete score for Hugo von Hofmannsthal 's play
Everyman - for chorus, orchestra and solo singers - is given its British premiere. Also on the programme, a dramatic piece for solo violin and orchestra by Janacek.
