The huddled groups of Jewish refugees who came to Manchester from Poland and Lithuania 100 years ago were preceded by even poorer Jews in the 18th century. After the war, there were arrivals from among the survivors of the concentration camps - but this is a celebration for 35,000 citizens of Manchester: they are no longer strangers.
