A play by Joyce Howard.
Adapted for television by Joyce Howard and Alwyne Whatsley.
[Starring] Barbara Mullen, Sebastian Shaw and Ursula Howells
The action takes place in the Wades' house, Highgate, London
(Second performance: Thursday at 9.30 p.m.)

To call Madge shy is to understate the case; she has an acute and trembling awareness of other people, of the eyes that may be upon her, and she is clumsy, and withdrawn, and gauche as a consequence. Henry, her husband, is kind and helpful in a rather off-hand way. Mrs. Merritt, the housekeeper, is kind in a more brusque fashion. And now upon the scene comes Alison, a widow but young, and adventurous, and lovely, and with a knack of getting her own way. Madge has good enough reason to be nervous of her arrival.
