New York, 1890s. Pugnacious dentist "Biff" Grimes gets a phone-call asking him to perform an emergency extraction. He is about to refuse when he hears the name of his client - Hugo Barnstead. A number of years have passed since they last met, but Biff hasn't forgotten him.
