A monthly review of current questions in architecture and planning
The Architect in the Tropics
by John Page, Chief Research Officer, Nuffield Foundation Division for Architectural Studies
Mr. Page reviews "Tropical Architecture in the Humid Zone" by Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew, recently published. He considers in particular post-war contributions to the urgent housing problems of tropical countries, and gives his reasons for believing that the present tendency to overlook local resources and practice in favour of building techniques imported from Europe is wrong and even dangerous.
