Rugby League World Cup

2017

Episode 1: Australia v England

Duration: 3 hours, 15 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Two ScotlandLatest broadcast: on BBC Two HD

Mark Chapman presents live coverage of the opening game of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup as England meet ten-time winners Australia in Melbourne.

Reigning champions Australia have reached 13 out of 14 finals since its inauguration in 1954 and with a team full of superstars like Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk and Greg Inglis, they start the tournament as strong favourites. England's hopes of success in the competition rest largely on their own star man Sam Burgess, with the team hoping to make up for the disappointment of missing out on the Four Nations final in 2016 after effectively being knocked out by Australia, who went on to lift the title. England are led by Australian Wayne Bennett, one of the NRL's most decorated coaches and a man with intimate knowledge of their illustrious opponents.

Commentary is provided by BBC rugby league correspondent Dave Woods. Show less
