Gordon Wilkins covers the world of motoring.
Some £60,000 worth of historical motor cars were auctioned by Sothebys in London yesterday - among them a model T Ford and Sir Winston Churchill's 1938 Austin. Since these sales began two years ago, nearly a quarter of a million pounds has been paid for veteran and vintage vehicles from Britain, and the best buyers are Americans. Will this prosperous trade empty our motor museums?
Lord Montagu of Beaulieu and John Bolster assess the results of yesterday's auction, and give their views on the export from England of cars which have made motoring history.
