Golf: Ryder Cup

2014

Day 1

Duration: 1 hour, 30 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Two ScotlandLatest broadcast: on BBC Two Wales

Hazel Irvine introduces highlights of day one of the Ryder Cup from Gleneagles, as Europe takes on the USA in one of sport's most compelling contests.

Rory McIlroy, the Open champion and USPGA winner, has been the form golfer of 2014 and he is the headliner of Paul McGinley's team, which also includes US Open victor Martin Kaymer and Justin Rose. They face a USA outfit led by eight-time major champion Tom Watson. His team includes Masters winner Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson and rising star Jordan Speith.

Europe have won the last two encounters by a solitary point. Their 2012 victory, 'the Miracle in Medinah', is now part of Ryder Cup folklore as the European team rallied from a 10-6 deficit to win eight of the 12 singles matches on the final day to secure a dramatic triumph. Show less
