Matt Baker is joined by five times Olympic gold medallist Ian Thorpe as Salford Quays plays host to the second staging of the Great Salford Swim, following its successful debut in 2010.

In a celebration of all things swimming, the one mile open water contest promises spectacular live action at a totally unique venue. Two-thousand competitors braved cold conditions last year to participate and 2011's event is even bigger with many inspirational swimmers raising money for good causes.

They are joined by World Champion Kerri-Anne Payne and fellow Olympic medallists Cassie Patten and David Davies, plus a host of famous faces from the world of sport and show business.

The Great Salford Swim is also providing a springboard for the launch of the Big Splash, the BBC's sport participation campaign designed to inspire British people of all standards and abilities to take to the water. Show less
