The tournament brings together the world's eight best players, who will compete for the last honour on the calendar. Spain's Rafael Nadal will begin as one of the favourites after claiming three grand slams this year, including a maiden victory at the US Open. Swiss star Roger Federer, who won this year's Australian Open, is chasing a fifth World Tour title.
