Bellamy's People

Episode 4

Duration: 30 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Two ScotlandLatest broadcast: on BBC Two England

Comedy. Award-winning radio phone-in host Gary Bellamy tries to pin down exactly what it means to be British.

In this episode, Gary asks just what's gone wrong with British society. Traditionally known for our good manners, decency and sense of fair play, are we now a nation of boorish drunken louts with no social conscience at all? When even an ex-criminal like Tony Beckton reckons that Britain has gone to the dogs, should we be worried? Staunch Christian Sam Maitland believes that it is the decline of our traditional Church that has led to the rot in British society. Young rappers Stormer and Sniper ask not to be blamed for the violent society they reflect in their 'raps'. Pensioner Humphrey Milner reckons that every generation in history has moaned about the younger generation. Peter Salad thinks that his middle-class manners and politeness have got him absolutely nowhere in life, and Gary spends a night on the town with Tulsa Kensgrove and her three young, sassy and extremely drunk girlfriends.
