In 2004, a stash of old film reels was found in the basement of an empty house by a Polish builder. At that time, no one could have guessed what fabulous treasures they would reveal. Their discovery and subsequent identification as British Deaf Association film footage dating back to the 1930s, has since had a profound impact on historians, not least of all many members of the deaf community.
In 2007, See Hear broadcast some of the reels in a documentary about its contents, which included lost footage of Leslie Edwards, the mastermind behind the film reels.
