Series 2

Episode 30: Newcombe Drive and Ellis Gardens

Duration: 30 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Two EnglandLatest broadcast: on BBC Two England

Series in which Carol Klein follows 20 gardeners hoping to have their work accepted into the National Gardens Scheme.

Newcombe Drive in the suburbs of Bristol is home to mother-and-daughter team Krista and Isobel Bignall. They have been trying to reclaim the previously neglected garden for 18 months. The 120 foot by 60 foot garden is partially landscaped but retains a natural feel. It has over 70 trees including a romantic weeping willow in the centre and recently added raised beds and paths. Krista and Izzy's main problem is that this once fantastic garden has been so badly neglected; there is a massive amount of work to do to get it up to Yellow Book standards. Can Carol come up with any solutions that can help them pull off what would be a horticultural miracle?

Cornish Ellis Garden Nursery is the creation of Tim and Sue Ellis. They have worked tirelessly, in between working in their own nursery, over the last two years on this spectacular private garden. The one acre square perennial flower garden includes a willow tunnel, a wildlife pond and what will hopefully become a white garden. There is also a large collection of euphorbias planted throughout.

Tim and Sue's problems are very different, as they began with a blank canvas - what could be their downfall is the sheer scale of work needed to finish their plans. Some areas of the garden are nothing more than a building site. Carol will definitely have to have her thinking cap on for this one. Show less
