Wild Down Under

Episode 6: New Worlds

Duration: 50 minutes

First broadcast: on BBC Two HDLatest broadcast: on BBC Two England

Australia is famously full of the weirdest animals, living undisturbed for almost 50 million years. But they are no longer alone here: people have also come to live in this land. From the steps of the first people 60,000 years ago, to the massive European changes in the last two centuries, how have those iconic animals coped with life alongside humans? There are kangaroos on the golf course and koalas at the railway station, screaming devils on the farm and monstrous lizards that sip water from air conditioners. Some animals are thriving as never before, and some have come back from the dead. For the wildlife that crosses paths with humans, both at the heart of cities and in the very remotest landscapes, the relationship is a surprising, bizarre and often poignant one. Show less
