Britain's countryside is disappearing at an alarming rate. In the last 30 years up to half our ancient woodlands have been felled, more than in the previous 300 years. Our increasing population demands more land to be used for agriculture. And new farming methods themselves have led to the rapid erosion of many of the features of the traditional countryside.
