Icebird
Narrated by Tony Soper
This month spring comes to the Antarctic, but it is a spring quite unlike our own gentle season. The bitter cold continues almost unrelieved. Yet millions of penguins leap from the sea and walk as much as 80 kilometres over the ice to their traditional nesting-sites. Each is engaged in a race against time, for it must raise its young before the return of winter brings blizzard, darkness and even more unimaginable cold.
