First of two films on music and the handicapped: Music and the Deaf ' Musicality really has nothing to do with the ears. It resides in the brain and the emotions of people, and the ears are simply a window through which sounds gain access to musicality. In the case of heavily impaired children, the window is not as clear as it should be, but the sounds are still accessible.'
(ARTHUR BOOTHROYD, audiologist)
Virtuoso bass player Gary Karr is convinced we perceive sound as much through our bodies as through our ears. He visits New York State School for the Deaf, where they have their own band.
